Pieces of Redemption
I spent the afternoon of Dec.21 @ Sauyo, Novaliches for the hifi DBAA (Don't Be An Asshole). Got there a bit later coz I worked half day while the rest of them took the whole day off. As expected, the kids reeked of sweat. You know, that distinct "amoy araw" that only eminates from kids of the lower classes (and I don't mean that in a condescending way. Oh Lord forgive me...).
It was so much fun. I've always been fond of kids, and just by assisting them during the games made me feel that I was actually playing with them. No, there's no childhood-reminiscing deja vu kind of thing, but the kind that actually takes your worries away though I actually had to lie so I could leave the office that day.
Surprisingly, it took children of strange parents to re-surface the patient Ellen. Lately I've been hot-heated and ill-tempered coz of the assholes and pricks that you encounter daily, but looking at their innocent faces, i don't even remember feeling a spark of fury when they misbehaved or lied to play another game or get another toy. Somehow, the tough Ellen would bow in the presence of the child.
Got bumped (or should I say headbatted?) while reaching for toys at the bottom of the box. This was the epitome of the event, that everything (no matter how painful or embarrasing) as long as for the good of others, makes it all worth while.
